I'm the art director at a TV station that has recently purchased a Deko 3000 to replace our Chyron Duet LEX, which has been acting up. I used to be a Chyron operator for news and freelance sports, so I am very familiar with the Duet and Lyric systems. Corporate wanted a Deko, though, so now I need to learn Deko, convert our graphics from Duet to Deko, and then train the actual operators! Fortunatly our main graphics package came with pre-made deko templates, so I have a big headstart there. I will have to manually convert a second station's package, but it's much simpler than the main one. I noticed there was an 'import chyron' feature, I will be trying that out for sure. In general, though, I was wondering if there are any folks out there who have faced a similar situation, and if so, what tips you might have!

GFX is using the Chyron Duet LEX with Lyric compositing software for the production of sports graphics throughout the world, including during the inaugural U.K.

One thing right off the bat: I noticed Deko defaults to a program/preview setup. We have always run our chyron with 2 active frame buffers at all times, IE A and B are always 'live'. Is this something Deko can easily replicate? We also used a lot of automation with iNews and control air, with various CG codes to build lower thirds and bullet point fullscreens.

I assume that Deko will work easily with iNews since they are obviously of the same brand! Introduction To Probability Grinstead Snell Pdf Free on this page. All in all I'm very impressed with the little I've seen so far.

I am just a little overwhelmed with the thought learning, converting, training, and 'idiot proofing'! First, I recommend getting Avid Deko training. Though you can learn on your own the process will be sped up exponentially if you get training. There are many great features in Deko, but there are a few places an inexperienced operator can cause serious havoc, especially since your station uses automation. The Chyron Import feature is from the early days of Deko, when many operators were using Infinit/Max/Maxine which had their own RGB files rather than standard graphic files, like.psd,.tga, &.mov. The preferable way to recreate templates now is to use those original graphic files and the truetype or open gl fonts you are currently using. In automation Deko is layer based and each layer must be setup correctly for automation to work. Smashing Pumpkins Unplugged Rarity.

Deko comes with a single channel or two channel output. If your station purchased 2 channels you will find a setting under the Channel pulldown menu, and can set your device to Dual Program rather than Preview/Program. When in Dual Program you will have 2 video & key outputs, and Preview that is visible only on the VGA monitor. If Dual Program is greyed out then your station did not purchase a 2 channel system. Deko can work with III protocol, or with the DekoSelect plug-in for iNews. If you do not have the DekoSelect plug-in than the III will work. Again, I strongly recommend training.

If your company has not purchased it you should ask for it. At the very least see if someone else in your corporate system who currently uses Deko can train you. Bonsai Techniques 2.
