They are collector items these days and are very very hard to find.
I own the hyper rare black version. Rated at 120wpc which is a crazy amount of power. Battle Net Patch 1 26av502u there.
Volume set at 3 will blow you out of the room. I am told the sound quality of the AA-1200 is on par with the highly collectible AM-2950. The AA-1200 is every bit as good as my Luxman R-1120 also rated @ 120wpc. Reviewed Jan 21st, 2014 by A 1978 model, tail end of the great receiver wars. A lot of products of this era were all about the power output and lost focus on the sound quality.
I got this in from a customer for cleaning and recap. I always do a sound check just to make sure what I am starting with. I am quite impressed with the musicality of this unit. It is very engaging at low power setting with lots of headroom to spare (rated at 120w/ch @ 8 ohms it is certainly is all of that). It is setup with dual power supplies and OCL (output capacitor-less) backend. This was the last of the monster receivers, the end of an era. At a used retail of around $125, this is a real sweet bargain, if you can find one, because they didn't crank out thousands of them like the Pioneer's and Kenwood's of the day.
Finished the recap, the Elna Selmic II's which I usually use for vintage jobs, were a little too bright for the by-pass application. I retained the original Sanyo's it came with. Came out very well, lots of detail at low volume, lots of punch at high volume while remaining composed. Note: the schematics are very grainy, even when blown up to 'A' sized drawing, it is hard to read most of the the values.
Additionally, the polarity of the capacitors and orientation of the semiconductors are not marked (no nomenclature of any kind) on the board, if you must replace a part, be sure and use a sharpie to note it's orientation. Also the prints do not include the idle current setting or test points, do not touch the pots. If you have to change output transistors, you'll probably need to contact the factory (or after-market) for the service manual.
This is very important, as this is a DC coupled output.
