Hi all, I'm using Reviz Retimer HD plugin with AE 5.5 to slow down part of an action sequence person(foreground) running along foor (background). The slowed down footage looks good except for artefacts on the floor around the persons moving limbs and shadow on floor. I loaded a matte (foreground = white,background = black) into Retimer to try to make Retimer just apply the motion math to the foreground with Matte colr = white and alpha channel but I still get the same artefacts.am I missing something??? Manged to work it out, solution below. A quick summary for those not familiar with re-timing software: To effectively slow down DV (or any other) footage you need software to generate inbetween frames from your footage to make the motion look realistic and smooth at 2x, 4x, 10 x, whatever x slowdown.

Realviz Re-timer or Boris Optical Flow (in Boris Red I believe) are 2 examples of this. Realviz HD is the plugin for AE. If you apply the plugin to a clip it looks for changing pixels so it generates extra motion frames for things like shadows and other objects that you don't want.so you can get some wierd artefacts. Solution You an use a matte to tell the plugin what is the foreground subject and only apply the motion math to that BUT Re-timer only accepts BLACK as the foreground color (???). If you do this combined with correctly identifying the source file properties (prog or interlaced) it works fine.
